Materials and Care
Last updated: September 23, 2026
We would rather tell you exactly what your shoes are made of than let you assume. Here is a plain description of the materials we use, why we chose them, and how to take care of your pair so it lasts as long as it reasonably can.
Upper material
Upper materials vary by style. Product descriptions identify synthetic materials such as PU (synthetic leather) or microfiber. These terms do not mean genuine leather. Check the Materials section on the specific product page before ordering.
Lining
Lining construction varies by style. Refer to the specific product page for its stated lining materials, such as mesh or synthetic lining. Do not assume every style contains genuine leather. If you need to confirm a material before purchase, email help@roampaths.com with the product name.
Outsole
The outsole is textured rubber, chosen for grip on both dry pavement and damp everyday surfaces such as a rainy sidewalk or a store floor. These shoes are not designed as waterproof footwear for standing water or heavy rain.
Why we use synthetic leather instead of genuine leather
Genuine leather has real advantages, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. It is also more expensive, requires more upkeep, and can vary noticeably from pair to pair. For a shoe meant for daily wear at a fair price, we chose synthetic leather because it holds a consistent shape and finish, cleans up easily, and keeps the price reasonable without cutting corners on the parts that actually affect fit and comfort, like the outsole and the heel construction.
How to clean your shoes
- Wipe the upper with a soft, slightly damp cloth to remove dirt and everyday grime
- For tougher marks, use a small amount of mild soap on the cloth, then wipe again with a clean damp cloth to remove any residue
- Avoid alcohol based cleaners or strong solvents, since these can dull or discolor synthetic leather over time
- Let shoes air dry at room temperature, away from direct heat sources like a radiator or heater vent, which can cause synthetic materials to crack or warp
- Brush the outsole with a stiff brush if needed to clear built-up dirt from the tread
What to expect over time
No shoe in this price range is going to last forever, and we are not going to promise otherwise. With normal daily wear, expect the outsole tread and overall cushioning to gradually wear down over months of use, the same as any pair of everyday shoes. Rotating between two pairs, if you wear yours often, can help extend the life of both.
If something seems wrong
If your shoes show a defect, such as separated stitching or a sole issue right out of the box, that is different from normal wear, and it is covered under our Refund Policy. Email us at help@roampaths.com with a photo, and we will take a look.
